Transcription Headquarters, Fort Chadbourne, Texas 20th April, 1860 Major, Your letter of the [inst], postmarked Fort Smith, 15th April, was received by me this morning and in reply regret my inability to comply with your request. Owing to the presence of Indians in this immediate vicinity of this post, I have been compelled to send a detachment from my company to take charge of the mountain pass station of the O, L and M Co., and ere long it will no doubt become necessary to send out additional parties...

Letter from Anthony Wayne written from Savannah, Georgia to Governor Edward Telfair asking what measures have been taken to recover prisoners and property carried off by Indians (Creek) which according to a certain treaty were to be delivered before June 1. He also asks what the governor’s sentiments are about compensation for depredations committed by the Creeks prior to the treaty.
